I've made 2 versions of Xcal (without calendar), that work well for clients of mine, but with differences with xcal, as i didn't need the locations categorized, i've change in event edit so that you can enter your event dirrectly there.
I've add too some fonctions as to order the event by dates (newest first or oldest first), an other template, and changes and add in languages.ini (in French and English)
Most changes in helper.php and a few changes in all the admin files. (SQL too !)
But, i think that if we want really an Xcal that work, we need a place where we could download it, and make it grow, where all the people involved in the evolution of this extension are kept informed and kept contact about what to change, test, correct...
I think that if we want to share this extension and to make it better, we need jonxduo to be available regularly, and have more informations as helper developers, beta testers or translators. (and not do 2 or 3 times the same corrections !)
If it is not possible for Jonxduo to continue this project, we can make an other one, based on his work, but probably with an other name. i can make it possible, as i've got a website for that (joomlic.com, still in developpement but operationnal), and i'm working on other extensions.
But if it possible, for a projet to develop a stable Xcal type version, i'll need agreement, and help of someone that speak italian, as it is important for all the users of the bêta xcal.
I've stopped to work on xcal for 2 months because i didn't get news and answers from jonxduo (hope really and sincerly that everything is all right !) but i would like to make a stable version of this good work from Jonxduo !
And a lot of people are waiting for a stable version that work !
